We know the three waters are critical to achieving health, environmental, economic and cultural outcomes and that the provision of three waters infrastructure is a major challenge for Councils, especially those facing growth and resilience issues.

Underway for a few years now, the new Government has confirmed the Reform Programme is a priority and it is moving at pace. With a projected infrastructure deficit north of $30 billion and major capability, funding and financing challenges, the service delivery reforms are critical to get right. Led by the Minister of Local Government and the Department of Internal Affairs, the programme is being undertaken in partnership with Local Government and iwi/Māori treaty partners. This workshop is a chance to hear from the lead officials about the roadmap for the programme, where we are up to and the next steps.

Workshop Format

With a focus on the service delivery reforms, the DIA team will talk through the Government’s starting position of a smaller number of multi-regional water entities, what this could look like and how it will radically change the waters landscape in Aotearoa. There will also be an opportunity for INZ member water experts to provide workshop feedback on some of the key issues that the programme is working through ahead of the next engagement with the sector in March and Cabinet decisions in the middle of the year.

Event Details

The two workshops will be held in Wellington on 27 January 2021 and in Auckland on 4 February 2021.

Spaces for both workshops are strictly limited to two water experts per member organisation.

The workshops will conclude with drinks and nibbles thanks to the generosity of our sponsors Stantec in Wellington and Tonkin + Taylor in Auckland.
