Infrastructure New Zealand’s first Senior Leaders’ Retreat, held in partnership with MartinJenkins, proved very successful. INZ will be taking key actions from the Retreat forward in our advocacy work for the remainder of the year.
A select group of senior leaders took part in the event at the Millbrook Resort in Queenstown from 30 June – 1 July.
The group heard from a range of speakers including local leaders Mike Theelan and Mike Pohio and National Party MP Simeon Brown. We were also joined by climate, infrastructure and economic experts including Professor Bruce Glavovic, Dean Kimpton, Christoph Vojc, Laura Harris, Graham Mitchell and Sharon Zollner. Kevin Jenkins facilitated discussion over the two days.
The group reconfirmed our four key focus areas: climate change and sustainable infrastructure, the funding and financing of the infrastructure deficit, skills and retention and diversity.
They also enjoyed a visit to Research and Innovation Queenstown, which highlighted the positive impact the $45 million research and innovation hub, currently under construction, will have for the region’s economic resilience.
The retreat concluded with a workshop which asked, “Where to from here?” The clear outcome of this discussion was the need to take pragmatic action to deliver on the outcomes the Government, and our sector, have committed to.
