Infrastructure New Zealand hosted the Building Nations Symposium on 21-23 August 2019 at the Energy Events Centre in Rotorua, New Zealand.

Attended by over 700 public and private sector industry leaders, Building Nations is the premier event on New Zealand’s infrastructure calendar. The two-day Symposium provides the opportunity for public and private sectors to come together to progress thinking and advance best practice in national infrastructure development. At its heart, the conference is about discussing and agreeing what must be done to ensure New Zealand’s infrastructure is not just fit-for-purpose, but that our infrastructure supports sustained improvement in the quality of life for all New Zealanders, now and into the future.

To align with government policy, the theme for Building Nations 2019 was Building Regions – how we can position our regions for growth, fund the investment we need and tackle the challenges facing our water, housing and transport sectors.

Local and international best practice speakers examined a range of issues concerning the New Zealand infrastructure sector, including:

  • Housing and Urban Development Authorities
  • Connecting Regions
  • Water Sector Reform
  • Construction Industry Accord
  • Lifting the Capability of the Infrastructure Sector
  • Local Government Funding
  • Better Procurement Models.
